Associate Professor Edward D. Dunson, AIA has been appointed to the US Commission of Fine Arts by President Obama. He wil be the fifth African American and the second Howard University architect to serve on the Commission. The others in their order of appointment are John Chase, FAIA: Jeanine Smith Clark; Harry G. Robinson III, FAIA, and; Phil Freelon, FAIA. Robinson served as chairman of the Commission. His term will be four years.
The Department of Architecture kicked-off the 2016-2017 academic year with a myriad of events that brought faculty, students, and alumni together. In addition to welcoming, its new chair, the Department hosted a number of activities including a lecture by Dr. Douglas Williams about David Williston, the first known black landscape architecture who was also instrumental in the early Howard campus, in July.
