Associate Professor Edward D. Dunson Appointed to the U.S. Commission of Fine Arts

Associate Professor Edward D. Dunson, AIA, has been appointed to the U.S. Commission of Fine Arts by President Obama. He will be the fifth African-American and the second Howard University architect to serve on the Commission. The others in their order of appointment are John Chase, FAIA; Jeanine Smith Clark; Harry G. Robinson III, FAIA; and Phil Freelon, FAIA. Robinson served as chairman of the Commission. His term will be four years.

Department of Architecture Hosts ARE 5.0 Workshop with NOMA, NCARB and DCRA

The Department of Architecture hosted a workshop on the Architect Registration Examination (ARE) and the path to licensure, in collaboration with the National Organization of Minority Architects (NOMA) on November 14, 2018. The workshop was facilitated by representatives of the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards (NCARB) and the District of Columbia Department of Consumer and Regulatory Agency (DCRA) Board of Architecture, Interior Design, and Landscape Architecture. Carl Elefante, FAIA, president of the American Institute of Architects delivered a powerful talk on “Architecture’s Relevance Revolution” on Monday, October 15 in our Innovation Space. Elefante is Principal and Director of Sustainability for Quinn Evans Architects, which has offices in Washington, D.C., Ann Arbor and Detroit, Michigan, and Madison, Wisconsin.
